HOW AHK’S SPECIALIST SAMPLING HUB SERVICES HELP ORGANISATIONS IMPROVE THEIR IBA SAMPLING CAPACITY
According to CEWEP (Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants), over 19 million tonnes of incinerator bottom ash (IBA) are produced annually. As recovery processes improve, it is becoming easier to reprocess and recycle this material for use as a secondary aggregate or to extract useful and valuable metals for co-firing at a smelting facility.
If recyclers, reprocessors and smelters are to extract the maximum value from their IBA, they must build an accurate profile of the composition of their material. When dealing with a large and varying amount of IBA however, producing a relative sample can be tricky.
INDUSTRY-LEADING IDEAS
Alfred H Knight has utilised over 140 years’ worth of experience in metals and minerals to develop specialist Sampling Hub services to enable organisations to determine the quantity and quality of a large sample size of materials with accuracy and speed.
Through an innovative and unique process, we have developed a method that allows us to scale our existing operations to handle industrial-sized lots of IBA. By doing so, we are able to deliver clear, concise and reliable reporting on larger quantities of materials, whilst maintaining the strict quality of service standards our clients have come to expect.
SUPPORTING THE INDUSTRY WITH IBA SAMPLING
Since launching our Sampling Hub services in January of this year, Alfred H Knight has already processed more than 200 sampling lots. This has allowed material that might otherwise have ended up in landfills to be extracted and reprocessed into pure metal for new products or sold to smelters.
Organisations are also benefiting from the outcomes of utilising a much larger sample. This is leading to stronger insights, reduced errors and enhanced overall performance, as well as helping to stream commercial processes for both supplier and buyer.
