International Day of Charity 2023
Today is International Day of Charity! As a family-owned organisation, we at Alfred H Knight understand the importance of charity and community.
At Alfred H Knight, we encourage colleagues to come forward with causes that mean a lot to them to apply for funding to support their charity.
Through this, the business has been able to assist colleagues in their fundraising efforts and has donated to many brilliant charities and good causes. These range from the sponsorship of local sports teams to supporting community projects, and even backing colleagues who are competing in challenges and events such as Tough Mudder!
This year, we’re proud to highlight just a few of the incredible charitable actions that our colleagues have taken in the past 12 months, as well as the work the business does for local charities and communities.
SUPPORTING OUR NEIGHBOURS: OUR DONATION TO HILLSIDE COMMUNITY CENTRE
Based in Merseyside near the Alfred H Knight Head Office, Hillside Community Centre is a cornerstone of the local community and is approaching its remarkable 25th-anniversary celebration this September! Throughout the school summer holidays, they offer freshly prepared home-cooked meals for up to 65 children who are eligible for free school meals, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals even outside of school days.
As a business, we recently visited Hillside Community Centre and donated some food items as a part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme. The donation has been used to prepare meals for children in the local area during the school summer holidays.
Hillside colleagues Berna and Barbara said:
«Thank you to the wonderful Alfred H Knight, a local business supporting a local charity, once again. We really appreciate your support. The lovely Sandra and Kiera dropped by today with an excellent food donation.» — Hillside Neighbourhood Centre
OUR RICHARDS BAY TEAM MARKS NELSON MANDELA DAY WITH INSPIRING ACTS OF KINDNESS
Back in July, our dedicated team members at our Richards Bay Laboratory in South Africa commemorated Nelson Mandela Day and its meaningful significance.
In honour of the 67 years he spent in prison, everyone is encouraged to dedicate 67 minutes to giving back and assisting others in our community.
Our team decided to show their support for the local charity, DICE (Do I Care Enough?), by collecting no longer used clothing from their homes and bringing them to work. These clothes were then placed on the AHK ‘washing line’ before being delivered to the local collection point.
Pictured are some of the staff who kindly contributed.
DICE works to support vulnerable members of the community through several ongoing projects that focus on feeding, warmth, education and socio-economic support.
The team’s remarkable efforts resulted in filling three whole boxes full of clothing, which were distributed to families in need, making a positive impact in the community.
AHKES DUNDONALD BAKE SALE
Ava is a 4-year-old girl from East Ayrshire, who unfortunately was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer, Neuroblastoma, earlier this year. Her parents are trying to raise £250k for an amazing new treatment in New York and have so far raised an incredible £130k, but still have a long way to go.
A few months ago, our colleagues based in Dundonald came together to hold a charity bake sale for Ava. Held in the office canteen, everyone contributed delectable cakes and generous donations, of which they raised an amazing £535! Ava and her family were very grateful for the help and support received.
ALFRED H KNIGHT SPONSORS KILWINNING RANGERS FC
Aligned with our dedication to supporting local grassroots clubs, Alfred H Knight is pleased to sponsor the Kilwinning Rangers football team.
Located in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, the team expressed sincere gratitude for their fresh new season kits, which they proudly donned while receiving medals at a recent tournament and during their training sessions.
A HUGE THANK YOU FROM KITTEN KARERS!
Recently, a local cat charity named ‘Kitten Karers’ found themselves in dire need of essential supplies. Being entirely dependent on donations, their existing £80,000 raised unfortunately fell short of covering the costs of necessary items, like food, to sustain their operations.
In a truly remarkable display of unity, Alfred H Knight’s colleagues came together within a single week to collect food, litter, supplies, and funds for the charity. The contributions gathered meant the world to Kitten Karers, offering relief from the pressure they faced during a bustling kitten season.
That’s not all! A few AHK colleagues have even adopted their much-loved cats from Kitten Karers…
