Meet Sam Southall, who started at Alfred H Knight as a Commercial Graduate and has recently been promoted to Business Development Associate!

WHAT ARE YOUR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT ALFRED H KNIGHT?

As a Business Development Associate, my primary role is to attract new business to Alfred H Knight and strengthen ongoing client relationships. This can include supporting new clients with our many services, identifying opportunities to provide certainty throughout the supply chain, and ensuring a seamless onboarding process. 

Equally important is working with existing clients to understand their current requirements and ensure we can continue to offer the highest level of service. 

My day-to-day responsibilities are incredibly varied — a testament to the dynamic and fast-paced nature of working at AHK. One day might involve coordinating across multiple departments to progress a new lead, while the next could see me collaborating with our local offices to provide support, from the UK, on their upcoming projects — no two days are ever the same!

WHAT HAVE BEEN THE HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR JOURNEY SO FAR?

Since joining as a Commercial Graduate in September 2023, Alfred H Knight has invested significantly in equipping me and other graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to transition smoothly into permanent roles. 

This commitment is evident in the opportunities I’ve had such as spending time overseas with our teams in Belgium and the Netherlands, gaining first-hand insight into some of the current operations. I have also completed a rotation in each of the PM/PGM laboratories, working alongside technical experts to gain exposure to all stages of the assay processes on these materials. 

In October, I attended the LME conference, which offered an invaluable opportunity to engage with clients, discuss upcoming projects, and gather feedback on our services. A constant throughout my time at Alfred H Knight has been the genuine willingness of colleagues at all levels to offer guidance and support.

These experiences have provided a perfect environment for my growth and development. Looking ahead, my role will focus on the PM/PGM side of the business, with continued support from AHK through further rotations across the business both here in the UK and abroad.
