Operations Manager

WHAT IS ON OFFER

Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join our team in Selby. As the operations manager, you will be principally responsible for managing the day to day operations at Selby but also in the port locations of Immingham, Liverpool, Hull and Tyne. AHKES operations involve weighting, sampling, consulting and inspection activities services, to ensure that an efficient, effective and high-quality service is provided in order to meet reporting deadlines and priorities agreed with our client..

You will support and develop the key personnel within the team in relation to development of staff and facilities based around the operations. The role is also responsible for supporting the activities of the Business Operations Manager in the wider group business context in relation to solid fuel streams.

The solid fuels division is undergoing significant growth and development and the role will become critical in supporting the functions and activities of the business unit. In particular current and new initiatives such as development within the UK Operations.

This role requires someone to have a hands on approach, having experience of working within the shipping industry.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE

 

Essential 

  • Must have the ability for spontaneous travel.
  • Must have a valid passport and ability to obtain visas as necessary
  • Must have a full valid driving licence

  • Have a deep understanding of the sector, its regulations and future outlook.

 

Required Work Experience

  • Understand the customer and the customer culture – including the motivations, freedoms/constraints and expectations at all levels of technical, financial and user buyers.
  • Use this information, along with technical expertise, to produce solutions that meet the sector needs and advance the business of AHK. Produce proposals of these solutions that capture this messaging, on both tactical and strategic level.
  • Understand problems from multiple perspectives, in order to connect multi-faceted issues with clear and effective solutions.
  • Create and maintain collegiate, efficient, respectful and mutually valuable relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Innovative and able to think laterally to develop solutions from first principles.
  • Must have previously supervised or managed direct reports.
  • Exposure to, and preferably operating experience in the circular economy.
  • Experience and demonstrated success in working in a cross-border, international, matrix structure organization.
  • Experience of living/working in an emerging market would be an advantage.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional certification and experience

 

Travel 

  • The role is based in the U.K. and will require both UK and international travel.
